Ning’s Life Lessons
Not even Hollywood could craft as dramatic a story as the life that NING BAIZURA has had to live. But she’s fought her way back to happiness, says CHERYL AMBROSE.
All heads turn as Ning Baizura swishes into the café where we meet. Such is her compelling beauty that it’s impossible not to physically swivel your head and stare. Her hair is luscious; her smile perfectly glossed and her attire enough to put the finest diva to shame.
Despite all appearances however, there seems to be no signs of a diva in the traditional sense. Instead, Ning appears visibly excited, almost child-like; clearly she is ecstatic about something.“It’s my first wedding anniversary in a few days,” she says, her grin making her look much younger than her 33 years.
Well, it had to be about love. Ning can’t seem to hold it in and begins telling a story she must have repeated millions of times to friends about the blind date that resulted in a diamond ring.
In 2006, Ning’s friends suggested that she let them pair her up with a mutual friend. She agreed. The location? Bali. Another friend was getting married and the romantic venue seemed too good to pass up.
